UK consumers searched online 6.1m times in May for white goods such as cookers, washing machines and dishwashers, according to new research from search and social marketing consultancy Greenlight published today.

According to the research, fridge freezer was the most searched for term, at 7% of all white-goods related searches, while washing machine came next at 6%.

The retailers that appeared most in natural search for white goods terms were Kelkoo (64%), Comet (61%) and PriceRunner (39%). Argos came in at fourth place, Tesco 10th, and Amazon 17th.

For paid search, AppliancesOnline (71%) was the most visible retailer, followed by Currys (65%), John Lewis (61%) and Dixons (61%). Tesco had lost ground since Greenlight’s last report in February while Argos came in ninth and Amazon 17th.

However the most searched-for white goods retailers were Amazon, Argos and Tesco. Amazon and Argos also scored highly in the analysis of social media interaction, coming in at two and three respectively in the top five most visible white goods brands in UK social media. Topping the list was Wikipedia.
