Not normally ones to offer style advice in any form, we’re pleased to welcome to Etail Towers Natalie Theo, Stylist at Dressipi.com, with a view on how to dress for the upcoming eCommerce Birthday Party and Awards on 18 July 2012.
The Party is on the roof of Cannon Street Station and not only are there the vagaries of the weather, but we have to dress to impress (yet also in a casual way) and be able to take in our stride activities from the Croquet Challenge Cup to learning to juggle fire sticks with the Circus Troupe…

“HOW TO WORK A LOOK FOR THE INTERNET RETAILING BIRTHDAY BASH”
Let’s start with the ladies. The really good thing about croquet is that it’s a slow, languid sort of game. This leaves you with plenty of time for posing, staring out across the views from the Cannon Bridge Roof Gardens, networking (that’s what you’ll be there for isn’t it?) whilst effortlessly switching from champagne glass in one hand to a flick of the croquet mallet in the other. Please practice the nonchalant one handed croquet swing now. So you can definitely wear heels. You’re going to be perched high up above London so what’s a few extra style inches between retail friends.
Heels take your work dress (or trousers) smoothly from boardroom to Internet Retailing Birthday parties. It’s up to you if you prefer sticking with a corporate court or switching to a strappy sandal or something a bit vampier. You have to decide round about now how much you want to get involved in the event’s activities. Circus? Personally, I think not a good enough excuse not to wear a fabulous dress or work a great look in favour of comfort and freedom of movement. You could always ditch the heels for any trapeze acts, but perhaps it’s best left to oohing and ahhing rather than tight rope walking. However you would be amazed what you can do in a figure-flattering dress, and round about now would also be the best time to find your Dressipi Fashion Fingerprint and discover such dress. Just saying.
Bling up your city chic look with a fabulous must-have clutch (stored in your work bag along with everything else no doubt). Splash out with a bit of sparkle or add a touch of colour. We love a good clutch. It’s the perfect way to give a touch of evening gloss to everything from jeans to a little black dress. Look for one with a strap or make sure you have someone on hand to hold your bag whilst you’re juggling the champagne glass, croquet mallet and exchanging twitter handles. A rooftop in London in the middle of July? Sounds like the title of the next installment of Monty Python. Who knows what the weather will do. From a style point of view, invest in a figure-flattering tailored blazer in a neutral tone. Look for something that will style work, casual and evening looks. Evening ballgowns. Scarves, necklaces, a hot-off-the-catwalk cuff are small, easy ways to dress up a work outfit for a big birthday bash.
And for the men, the night is not all about high heels and sparkly clutch bags. Men should happily channel Geek Chic (please invest in a decent pair of jeans) it’s an internet event after all, or do a ‘New Age James Bond’ – you know, suit without the tie, top few buttons (of your shirt that is) undone. Happily lend your jacket to any woman who’s forgotten to style her look with one of those versatile work-to-weekend-to-ballroom tailored jackets if and when the heavens open. You’re James Bond after all. If you don’t discover the next best thing in internet retailing you’ll look really good whilst trying.
