Despite wanting to shop in bricks and mortar stores – especially boutique and independent shops – consumers are being put off because they simply can’t find them as they have no mobile or online presence, suggests a survey.

BT has signed an agreement with Fenwick Ltd giving shoppers free, unlimited wifi at its 11 UK premier department stores – visited by some 64 million shoppers annual, all of whom can now browse for free.

Debenhams , Expedia and Argos have topped the UK Mobile Commerce study by EPiServer, published this week. The report scored the mobile websites and apps of 30 of the UK’s top retailers against a detailed best practice benchmark informed by research into current consumer attitudes to mobile usage and experience.
Technology appears to be playing a role in reversing the stereotype of the male dislike of shopping. As the number of people owning a smartphone continues to rise, research from Kantar Media’s Global TGI reveals that men lead the way when it comes to mobile shopping.
A third of businesses, regardless of size, believe that 20% of their revenues will come from mobile by 2014, with smaller merchants expecting more growth in the mobile channel and are as likely to have an app as businesses with turnovers of $50million of above.
