March 2011 IRX
Great start for Internet Retailing Expo 2011
Over 2600 visitors and 100 exhibitors attended the first ever Internet Retailing Expo (IRX) in the Pavilion at the NEC on 23-24 March 2011, quickly establishing the new show as a winner on the exhibition and conference front. Building on the success of the Internet Retailing Conference, now in its sixth year, IRX attracted visitors from around the country, determined to further their knowledge of the online and multi-channel retailing industry.
“Professional”, “serious about business”, “high quality visitors” and “targeted market” were some of the many positive comments from exhibitors wishing to book their presence at next year’s event. Visitors too were impressed, not only with the calibre and number of exhibitors, but also by the speaker programme which attracted huge audiences meaning that in the majority of cases, despite the number of seats allocated, visitors had to stand.
Organised by Internet Retailing Events, the speaker programme delivered high quality content providing a platform for the exchange of ideas, knowledge and experience, all of which are core to maximising a retailer’s presence online.
The two conferences catered for different needs and focussed on “Best Practice” which was predominantly targeted at smaller businesses and those currently at an early stage of multi-channel and “Harnessing the Enterprise for Channel Growth”, which gave delegates the opportunity to learn from the experiences and ideas of leading, enterprise-scale retailers. The conference presenters included keynote speaker Julie Meyer from BBC’s Online Dragons Den and CEO Ariadne Capital, Nick Wheeler, the founder of Charles Tyrwhitt, Luke Fairless, Lead Service Manager at Tesco, Harriet Williams, Strategy and Online Marketing Controller at Debenhams and Roeland Loof, Senior Manager of Mobile Europe at eBay.
Mobile Retailing was a key element of the IRX and a mobile retailing panel on the first day proved extremely popular as-Paul Skeldon, editor of M-Retailing, who chaired the panel said; “It was jam-packed with retailers, all of whom had cut short their lunch to hear what our panel of retailers and technology experts had to say. And fascinating stuff it was too. In essence, retailing is set to change dramatically over the next few years and portable devices, whether used at home (as most people seem to do now) or on the move, will be a major area for online selling.“
Commenting on the event, Mark Pigou, MD of Internet Retailing Events, said: “Yet again, the Internet Retailing brand has launched an event that meets the needs of our market. For its first year, IRX exceeded all expectations and we were genuinely overwhelmed by the fantastic feedback from speakers, delegates and exhibitors alike. We look forward to developing the event over the next year and hosting another successful Internet Retailing Conference on October 4 in London. Our networking event for exhibitors and speakers on the first day also proved a huge success continuing the buzz of the day well into the early evening.”
The Internet Retailing Expo 2012 will take place on March 21st and 22nd at the NEC in Birmingham. For more information click on www.internetretailingexpo.com

“We have always found Internet Retailing Events a highly professional organisation who are serious about their business. Their events are targeted and niche, introducing exhibitors to the right calibre of potential clients. At IRX, we have gained more leads than we could have anticipated and it was good to meet with retailers from the North of the country. I would say to anyone who wasn’t there, you would be a fool to miss it.” Brian Bush, Managing Director, Divendo
“As we would expect, the show was highly professional with good quality visitors. We have had a consistently busy stand with little or no break-out time! The IRX team are a flexible group who always go that extra mile to accommodate the needs of their exhibitors.” Kety Oliveira, Marketing Executive, Sage Pay
“We found the show extremely worthwhile and met a wide range of potential customers. With such targeted marketing and knowing the industry, the event organisers gave us the perfect platform for which to build our business. We have already booked again for next year.” Roger Cross, Managing Director, Jungo
