The 10th annual Internet Retailing Conference, to be held in October, will celebrate the achievements of the last decade while helping to set a course for the next.
Speakers from across the industry will reflect on a period that saw the early development of today’s multichannel and ecommerce retailing industries, itself the foundation of the future work to come.
“A ‘decadian’ theme drives our look at the fundamentals of multichannel retail, above and beyond the annual twitches, responses and hype of trends,” says Ian Jindal, editor-in-chief of Internet Retailing. “In our fast-changing industry every innovation and new opportunity is hailed as a trend, but with the benefit of a decadian view we can assess the longer term directions and currents.”
The conference opens with a keynote plenary session where speakers include Peter Williams, chair of Boohoo.com and former chief executive of Selfridges , before dividing into three streams themed around the customer journey: The Customer; Products and Services and The Order.
“These three elements define multichannel ecommerce,” says Jindal, who will chair the conference. “We will also consider these through decadian lenses: what has stood the test of time or not? How do we balance harvesting returns in the short term with building value in the long term? Put simply, how do we move from the ‘transaction’ to the ‘customer’ and then to sustained value?”
Alongside the three-track conference, there will be a free-to-enter exhibition featuring the latest retail technology, while suppliers will host a range of free workshops giving practical advice as to how to get the best out of their products.
