Dixons Carphone expands dropship business

Dixons Carphone is using new technology as it expands its dropship business, enabling customers to buy more easily from a range of third-party suppliers as an alternative to buying solely the products it has in stock.

Electricals retail brand Currys PC World will use The Edge platform from Virtualstock to expand both its dropship suppliers and its product range, while also streamlining order management processes in the area. It aims to increase sales and make savings as a result, while at the same time giving customers the same experience whether items are in stock or shipped directly from suppliers’ warehouses.

Currys PC World [IRDX RCUR] will also be able to track the status of orders in real-time, enabling it to coordinate inventory levels through a centralised system to avoid out-of-stock orders.

Andrew Harrison, deputy group chief executive of Dixons Carphone [IRDX RDXC], said: “As Europe’s leading multichannel specialist electrical and telecommunications retailer we are a new retailer for a new digital age. Virtualstock’s digital supply chain platform, The Edge, is a key component of our omnichannel strategy and will contribute significantly to achieving our goal of offering the widest and most relevant range of connected products and technology.”

The Edge is a digital supply chain platform which uses real-time data to streamline retailer and supplier collaboration, and integrates with legacy systems. Retailers already using it include Tesco, John Lewis and Argos.

Andrew Mills, chairman and chief executive of Virtualstock [IRDX VVRT], said: “We are delighted to be working with Dixons Carphone and are already helping them to drive growth through their dropship business. Dixons Carphone is the latest addition to our retail client list and we continue to develop the capability and flexibility of The Edge to meet the omnichannel requirements of today’s retail marketplace and drive optimisation across the supply chain.”
