Nearly half of UK consumers interact with brands on Facebook, according to new research.

Some 45% of online shoppers in the UK have ‘liked’ a brand on Facebook, the Social Profile UK report from email and social media marketing specialists ExactTarget found. Of those, 24% said they were more likely to buy from the brand.

The report, which quizzed 1,404 consumers, also found that 46% of UK online shoppers have bought after receiving an email marketing message. And of the 7% who have followed a brand on Twitter, 32% said they were more likely to buy from the brand.

“UK consumers expect more from brands than ever before as they turn to email, Facebook and Twitter for exclusive content, special offers and unique experiences,” said Tim Kopp, ExactTarget’s chief marketing officer.

“Agile marketers who can drive interaction across online channels and build consumer engagement have a clear advantage, and our Subscribers, Fans and Followers research provides the insight they need to understand what consumers expect.”
