Amazon exceeds 100 million paid Prime subscribers

For the first time in its history Amazon has revealed the penetration of its Amazon Prime user base – with more than 100 million subscribers paid up.
The figure was released by chief executive Jeff Bezos in his annual letter to shareholders earlier this week. In it he revealed that more than five billion items were shipped with Prime worldwide last year and the rate of sign-up was higher than ever. It comes 13 years after the service was first launched.

He said that the 2017 recruitment figures were higher than any other year both worldwide and in the US. In the US customers receive unlimited free two-day shipping on over 100 million different items. Same day and one day delivery is available in 8,000 cities and towns and Prime Now – which delivers in hours – is around 50 cities and nine countries.
