Will England fans out in force at the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa this month be sporting the Three Lions kit?

That, it seems, is in doubt. For while World Cup fever is mounting around the world, ahead of kick-off later this month, there’s a certain lack of interest in England football kits.

Germany fans, it seems are much more interested in kitting themselves out with a football kit, according to figures from shopping search engine Twenga. Growth in the number of German searches for football shirts rose by 579.8% in the month to May 26. In France, shirt searches were up by a more modest 64.8% over the same period. But in the UK searches for shirts over the same period were up by just 35.2%.

Searches for football T-shirts were just as disappointing – up by 545.3% in Germany, 237% in France but just 5.8% in the UK. And when it comes to football kit, German searches were up by 357.5%, French searches up by 41.2%, but UK searches jut 25.1%.
