A consortium of Asian and international clothing suppliers have forged an alliance to launch Epiq, a new online shopping destination.

Many of the suppliers have been left without payment in the fall-out of UK retail shop closures, including Principles, and say the new site “hopes to tap into rapidly changing consumer buying habits and avoid the punitive trading practices of top retail fashion brands caught in the wake of the economic crisis.”

“This is an Asian response to what is currently a predominantly Western retail crisis,” says a spokesperson for the new Epiq label. “Some of the UK’s high street retail failures have to be partly laid at the door of sharp retail practices which have badly affected clothing suppliers in Asia.”

The consortium hopes that the new Epiqfashion.com site will fill what they call “the gaping hole in ‘grown up’ fashion left by the closure of clothing retailer Principles” by satisfying consumer demand for high-quality clothing at pocket sensitive prices.

“This is a case of clothing suppliers taking on and competing with the traditional high street retail trade on its own doorstep with an online challenge,” said the spokesperson.

“As well as taking the headache out of staying on top of current trends, online shopping at Epiqfashion.com also dispenses with the superfluous frills seen on other fashion sites to offer a simplicity that will undoubtedly come as a breath of fresh air to Epiq’s target audience,” the consortium concludes.
