Amazon to hold second Prime Day on July 12 as it continues to expand member-only services
Amazon is to hold its second annual Prime Day this month. More than 100,000 deals will be available exclusively to Prime Members on the day, July 12.
The day is a key part of the retailer's strategic move towards the subscription model. Prime Day is one of a number of member-only events and services. Free delivery plus a range of faster, premium deliveries are available to Prime members. This week saw the expansion of the Amazon Fresh grocery delivery service to 128 London postcodes, from 69 previously. Again, this is a Prime members-only service.
The retailer promises there'll be something for everybody in the event, which will cover all departments on 10 websites in the UK, Europe, North America and Japan.
"The response to Prime Day in 2015 surpassed all our expectations here in the UK, so we're delighted to be bringing this major summer deals day back for our UK Prime members in 2016 with even more great deals available," said Doug Gurr, managing director at Amazon UK. "Not only are there great deals to shop, there are also great prizes to be won for our Prime members through the Prime Music ‘stream to win’ competitions here in the UK. From tickets to Chase & Status’ gig in Ibiza to tea for two with Len Goodman, there are great prizes every Prime member will want to win in this Prime Day celebration.”
The retailer also suggests that access will be improved if members step further into the Amazon sphere by downloading its app.
Greg Greeley, vice president, Amazon Prime, said: “We anticipate massive demand for the offers on Prime Day, so we recommend customers download the Amazon shopping app to receive notifications on their favourite deals."
Last year's Prime Day was rivalled only by Black Friday for the number of orders placed on a single shopping day. Like Black Friday, this year's event will start well ahead of July 12, with 'countdown deals' starting from July 5.
