More than a third of shoppers would try drone delivery: study

Linked InTwitterFacebookeCard
More than a third (35%) of shoppers think delivery by drone would work for them, a new study has found. Those aged between 18 and 24 are particularly keen, with this age group being more than three times as likely to opt for drone delivery than the over 55s.

Some 76% of the 500 UK adults questioned by Research Now in August for a MetaPack study said they would like same-day delivery, 73% would try Sunday delivery and 69% would opt for one-hour delivery.

The findings come against a backdrop in which a third of shoppers have taken time off work to wait for a parcel – and a third have seen a missed delivery card on the doormat when they were at home. Other complaints came from the 28% of consumers who have had their parcel left in an inappropriate place, such as a bin, and the 39% who waited in all day for a parcel that never arrived.

Some 59% say they would consider cutting off all ties with a retailer after such experiences. More positive experiences, however would encourage 95% of consumers to return to the same trader.

“Millennials have long been reported to experience a fear of missing out – analysts cal this phenomenon FOMO,” said Angela O’Connell, marketing and strategy director at MetaPack . “But in the world of ecommerce, FOMD (fear of missed delivery) is the real threat. Now retailers are under pressure to get the delivery experience just right, particularly as consumers get increasingly demanding for more flexibility, convenience and control. Research shows it’s time to get innovative.”
