Ecommerce market under scrutiny from new competition watchdog

The ecommerce market is set to come under scrutiny from the new competition watchdog.


From today the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) replaces the Office of Fair Trading and the Competition Commission.

Speaking to the Financial Times, the CMA’s chief executive Alex Chisholm said a study into the UK ecommerce market would be one of the organisation’s first acts.

Chisholm told the FT that it would be a “fundamental analysis of what’s happening in the UK economy,” as it looks to work out why and how digital start-ups are finding it difficult to compete against existing retailers.
