Apple, eBay and Amazon: what their latest figures mean for your retail business

Linked InTwitterFacebookeCard
In today's InternetRetailing newsletter, we're reporting as some of the largest online traders on the planet bring us up-to-date with their latest figures. These are figures whose significance goes well beyond their own business: pureplays eBay and Amazon are in themselves sources of business for many multichannel traders who derive significant revenues via their seller marketplaces. Meanwhile, multichannel Apple's results are interesting for what they tell us about the popularity and use of the mobile devices that the company has pioneered, changing the way we shop. If peak iPhone has indeed arrived, what does that say for the use of the smartphone in shopping? All the signs are that smartphones will be used for more and more transactions since many of those likely to buy one are now in full possession - and retailers will be keen to adapt accordingly.

Today we also report on full-year figures from high street stalwart H&M and Jimmy Choo, and on analysis that puts a figure the average spend of UK shoppers, in comparison to the US and Germany.

We have guest analysis from Channie Mize of Periscope trendspotting at NRF, while today's guest comment comes from Jasper Bell of digital consultancy Amaze, who considers how supermarkets might evolve their online offerings.
