Customers flock to Cyber Weekend bargains on the high street – and in the boardroom

The Black Friday and Cyber Monday weekend was undoubtedly a busy one. Customers flocked online and to the high street, wielding their mobile phones as they bought a wide range of products.

But Cyber Weekend also saw a burst of larger acquisitions among IRUK Top500 retailers, as JD Sports bought Go Outdoors, and Dunelm doubled the size of its internet business by buying WorldStores and its Kiddicare and Achica subsidiaries for £8.5m out of administration.

Today we also report on Topps Tiles as it sets out its profitable strategy of focusing on multichannel convenience and inspiration across channels.

And we have news that the latest IRUK Top500 Performance Dimension Report, this time on The Customer, is now available online.

Today's guest comment comes from Guy Chiswick of Webloyalty Northern Europe, who considers the importance of online reviews in selling over the internet.

Our webinars

Our next webinar is in December when Bronto's Greg Zakowicz, senior commerce marketing analyst at Bronto Software, will look at how Top500 retailers, defined through InternetRetailing's IREU research, approach the task of engaging with their customers. He'll consider best practice approaches to doing that across the borders of the European Economic Area, plus Switzerland. Brand Engagement: how the Top500 retailers best connect with consumers is at 2pm on December 5. To find out more or to register for the free webinar click here to visit the Bronto webinar page.

Two days later, Digital River global strategy specialist Howard West will share strategies for expanding online businesses globally. He'll be considering key areas from language and payments through to fulfilment and the customer experience, illustrated with real life examples. E-Commerce: strategies to expand your international presence is at 2pm on December 8. Click here to find out more and register for the free event.
