The fast growth of online shopping that's predicted over coming years has important implications for the store, according to two stories that we cover in today's Internet Retailing
According to Verdict Research, online shopping is set to mushroom by 50% over the next five years, reaching £50bn of retail spending in the UK by 2018. That has implications for stores, which, it says, must give people reasons to make the trip rather than stay at home in the more comfortable surroundings of their homes.
It's a theme that continues in a study by the IMRG and eDigitalResearch, which finds evidence of that change already underway. Its findings suggest a significant minority of shoppers believe that shops go downhill at Christmas - think queues, crowds and lack of service – while the online offer improves, thanks to deals and improved ranges.
