It's a truth universally acknowledged that retailers cannot and most likely will not continue to absorb the cost of sending out online orders as volumes rise. In this week's Internet Retailing newsletter we report on how traders are starting to square that circle for themselves.

John Lewis said it would start to charge for click and collect, while Amazon, which raised the threshold for its free delivery earlier this year, is now introducing premium same-day delivery in London. Where these two lead will others inevitably follow? We wait with interest to see how traders will now start to differentiate themselves on the cost of fulfilment.

Today we also report as BDO shows that online sales continue to grow while the high street disappointed in June, as alternative payments start to make themselves felt in the BRC annual report on payment,
