Today's InternetRetailing newsletter is the first of the New Year and in it, Janus-like, we're both looking backwards to the old year and forward to what the new one is set to bring.

Our backwards focus centres on Christmas: some retailers, notably House of Fraser and John Lewis, had a very good time, while others, notably Bank, had a very bad one. Banks' administration makes it the first retail casualty of the year, but it's very unlikely to be the last. Next stands between the two extremes, reporting healthy growth last week.

Looking forwards, we map some of the trends of 2015 in the first of a series of New Year pieces in which we bring together the wisdom of many, forecasting what the year will bring. Today, the focus is on growth strategies. The InternetRetailing team of regular reviewers also today shares its analysis of the new Selfridges website.
