The expanding networks that support online growth

Linked InTwitterFacebookeCard
Today's InternetRetailing newsletter tells a story of growing online sales and the growing networks that support growth. Both Sports Direct and AO World this week reported ecommerce sales up by more than a quarter. These results are strong but not untypical of the kind of results ecommerce and multichannel businesses are now seeing. But such fast growth doesn't happen in a vacuum. There are also a strong array of vendors and suppliers in areas from logistics to software who support retailers as they grow. We cover three such stories today. They include UPS Access Points, as it grows its cross-border logistical capabilities, and InPost as it widens the range of convenient pick-up points for online shoppers, and the NetSuite acquisition of Venda, in a deal that aims to improve the ecommerce platforms it offers retailers while also widening its global reach.

But in today's newsletter we also aim to uncover some of the reasons why sales fall. We cover Mothercare's falling online sales while today's guest comment comes from Dan Sutherland of Carrenza, who analyses Marks & Spencer's recently reported fall in online sales, and what retailers can learn from it.
