The overriding theme from the stories we cover in today's InternetRetailing newsletter is the way that retailers are reorganising and developing their businesses around the importance of offering shoppers convenient shopping.

This was the week that Amazon Fresh launched in London, taking the retailer into competition with the likes of Sainsbury's, which, reporting its latest figures this week, said it was confident in its use of multichannel to give customers the anytime, anywhere shopping experience that they want.

That's a strategy that it will extend in its acquisition of Argos, a transaction now scheduled to complete later this year.

It was the week that Boohoo.com and AO World reported fast growth in their latest results, while Bonmarché revealed disappointing online figures.

Today's guest comment comes from Mudit Jaju at MEC Global, who considers the importance of frictionless retail in future commerce.

This highlights the way that retailers are developing their businesses in order to give their customers the convenience they so demand. This isn't purely done from a spirit of generosity – rather this is how they are developing their service to ensure that shoppers buy from them, rather than from a rival. We're reporting on top-flight retailers drawn from the IRUK Top500 - but this is something all traders in a competitive market will need to consider to keep the business of shoppers who are now presented with a vast choice of products from a very wide choice of retailers.
