Flying Brands, owner of Flying Flowers, has bought Garden Centre Online for about £0.13m.

The online garden equipment retailer, launched in 2005, sells products from lawnmowers and watering and lighting equipment to greenhouses and garden furniture.

At Flying Brands, it will sit alongside home shopping businesses including Flying Flowers and Flowers Direct, Gardening Direct, Garden Bird Supplies and entertainment retailer Listen2.

Flying Brands says it expects to pay £0.13m for the company, which turned over £1.25m in the year to August 2009, and made a pre-tax loss in that period of £0.11m. Sales in the year to August 2010 are expected to be at the same level as last year, with a small loss before tax.

Stephen Cook, chief executive of Flying Brands, said: “The acquisition of Garden Centre Online is another example of our strategy of acquiring businesses in areas that are complementary to our existing product range and that enable us to leverage our growing customer base.

“It will increase further our online sales and we look forward to being able to offer our existing customers a wide range of great value-for-money hardware products.”
