Brand new online wine merchant Wine&Something uncorks massive sales with ecommerce

Wine&Friends: tapping into online wine sales spike
Wine&Friends: tapping into online wine sales spike

The competitive UK online wine market has just welcomed an indie underdog: Wine&Something. The brand new merchant provides high quality, affordable wines from small, independent family-owned wine producers from all the major wine regions around the world.

The website is also the UK’s first Shopware 6 store, built in collaboration with Manchester-based ecommerce agency, supercharged commerce.

As the public has to endure another lockdown period at home, Wine&Something offers an alternative home delivery service. Unlike some bigger well-known online wine brands, Wine & Something celebrates a largely exclusive portfolio of 250+ wines, from 75 producers across 12 countries.

Wine&Something believe that good wine goes with anything. The name Wine&Something lends itself naturally to brand extensions - Wine&Friends, Wine& Zoom Quizzers, Wine&Romance - a conscious decision on the part of the ambitious founders, who have built a website designed to expand beyond a traditional ecommerce store, into ‘something’ great.

“Ambitious, innovative and gratifyingly different, we believe that good wine goes with anything. Big nights. Posh meals. New loves. Old friends. The better the wine, the better those somethings.”

We’re going up against giants like Laithwaites and Naked Wines - but we’re an underdog in all the best ways. We’re proud to offer the UK consumer some of the most exciting wines in the country, exclusive to Wine&Something. Thanks to our amazing technology and operations partners, we have an unparalleled fulfilment system for quality home delivery, and our online platform will only grow to provide more of the special ‘somethings’ along with our amazing wines.” - Dale Agar, Co-Founder & CEO of Wine&Something

Working with supercharged commerce, the Wine&Something team chose Shopware Enterprise 6 to power the flexible purchasing experience of their evolving online store. Already a leading platform in Germany, this launch represents the first major UK store to be built using Shopware 6.

Supporting Wine&Something’s goal to disrupt the wine market, the commerce platform gives the wine merchants flexibility to integrate optimised payment gateways, product management, social integrations and a full marketing suite.

“Wine&Something needed a unique approach to online commerce. Like wine, ecommerce is a personal experience, where hidden delights are essential when it comes to turning customers into advocates. We knew that Wine&Something had their sights set on expansion, innovation and community; that’s why we built their online store using Shopware 6. This online platform, never before launched in the UK, is an innovative challenger in the ecommerce market, offering a flexible ecosystem with great speeds for a low cost.”- Michael Ashworth, Director at supercharged commerce.

Alongside their chosen digital agency, supercharged commerce, Wine&Something worked with brand agency Fluid-Ideas, which provided the branding, design and product photography for the website.
