German Mailorder E-Commerce grows 1,7% to 29,1 bn. € in 2009

According to market researcher TNS Infratest, the German mailorder market grew 1,7% in 2009, despite the critical economic situation. Market revenue reached 29,1 billion Euros. Thomas Lipke, chairman of the E-commerce comittee in the Bundesverbands des Deutschen Versandhandels (BVH), believes that the share of online mailorder retailers in the overall retail market will grow from 7,2% last year to 7,4% this year and can reach 10% in the coming years.

For the first time, more than 50% of shoppers purchased good & services online: 53,3%, compared with other contacts like catalogue, mail, fax or phone. In 2009, online generated revenue increased by 16% to an amount of 15,5 billion Euros. The BVH expects the whole mailorder market to grow by 2% in 2010.
