CASE STUDY How technology has driven 1600% sales increase for online hot tub business

Wave hot tubs: sales bubble up by 1600%

Wave hot tubs: sales bubble up by 1600%

Online portable inflatable hot tub business wavedirect.co.uk has attributed smart retail technology to its success after it has seen its business explode over the past month with sales increasing 1600% and monthly sales reaching £4m as it eyes up International territories.

The business, which specialises in stylish portable inflatable outdoor Wave Spas & Hot Tubs that are ready to use in five minutes, has gone from a part time lifestyle business for its co-founders, Tom Jeffrey and Daniel Luper turning over £300,000 annually, to a multi-million pound ecommerce brand with sales reaching over £4m in April alone.

With no sign of sales slowing down as brits prepare for a summer of staycations and make the most of their outdoor spaces, the business is working with its technology partner Aero Commerce to maximise the opportunity and has had to rapidly ramp up its operations and logistics processes as it gears up to meet demand working with logistics provider The Storage Place and order fulfilment solution Veeqo.

The surge in sales will also allow the business to target international markets sooner than it had anticipated, with ecommerce websites for four more countries already being planned with its technology partner, Aero Commerce.

Speaking about the success, Managing Director, Tom Jeffrey, explains: “Using the Aero Commerce platform has been undoubtedly been key to our success, with super quick page load times of sub two seconds, conversion rates of over 2% and the ability to handle intense traffic without seeing performance issues has enabled the site to meet demand. We are working with the team on a number of exciting developments and plan to move our sister site over to the platform as soon as possible.”

Richard Bendelow, CEO of Aero Commerce, says: “Working with a retailer that is experiencing such fast growth has been a tremendously rewarding challenge for us. Retailers tend to either budget their server infrastructure costs, meaning spikes in traffic that can cause sites to run slow or crash, or they run auto scaling solutions to grow with traffic and this gets very expensive, very quickly. So with Wave Direct, the focus has been the optimisation of the store front, coupled with the power and speed of our platform. This has ensured the site has stayed fully online, been fast for each and every visitor and has been incredibly cost effective with no spikes in charges. It’s been a great test for Aero and really satisfying to see the platform perform.”

Bendelow  adds: “The past few months have been incredible and we’ve had to really ramp up our operational model and work around the clock to make sure our products are getting out to customers as soon and as safely as possible. It has been an enormous challenge but one we’re hugely grateful for in the current climate.”
