Home and garden tops lockdown delivery categories

Home and garden items are the most popular category of lockdown deliveries, according to a survey by Royal Mail.
A survey of 2082 UK adults earlier this month by YouGov found that 41% of respondents had ordered these items, with 33% opting for home entertainment items.

Meanwhile, 29% had ordered fashion items while 25% had ordered health and beauty items. The survey found 15% had ordered a paid subscription box since lockdown began.

Also revealed was the impact of deliveries on morale during the lockdown, with 51% saying online deliveries was a “boost” while 36% said receiving a parcel was the highlight of their day.

Shane O’Riordain, MD of marketing, regulation and corporate affairs at Royal Mail, said: “Keeping the nation connected in these unprecedented times is of vital importance to us.

“It is perhaps unsurprising that for many customers, receiving an item that they have ordered online from our postmen and postwomen can really brighten up their day in such challenging times.”
