Homebase shoppers ‘create the look’ in-store

Homebase customers can now see how their home might look once decorated in the DIY store’s products using a new in-store digital media solution.

The multichannel retailer has piloted a Create the Look digital media solution at its Aylesford, Kent, branch which runs on design technology from Qmatic, a specialist in customer flow management, integrated into Homebase’s systems by digital media software company HintTech.

Using the system shoppers can upload a photo of their lounge, kitchen, bedroom or bathroom to a 32” digital interactive touch screen, personalizing it by adding flooring, paint or wallpaper, all of which can be bought or ordered through the store. The system uses real images of products and works out perspective as well as light and shadow. Following a pilot in which 428 room designs were printed, Homebase now expects to roll the technology out to more stores.

Jon Hamilton, customer service development manager at Homebase, said: “We know that technology plays a key role in allowing customers to visualize how they can transform their homes. The Qmatic-HintTech solution fits with our vision to be first for decorating.”
