Digital will touch more than half of European retail transactions over the next five years, says a new Forrester report – and nowhere more so than in the UK market.
Today’s Internet Retailing newsletter brings together some timely examples of just why staying ahead of multichannel is now so important. Domino’s Pizza, for example, reports today that not only are most of its sales now online, but that its app is now its biggest sales channel.
Then, Land Securities reports today that it is now enabling the Apple Watch as part of its loyalty rewards programme, making it possible for shoppers in its Trinity Leeds centre to collect points, redeem discounts and receive beacon alerts using the new wearable device.
Pureplay Naked Wines, meanwhile, is now using the shops of its new owner Majestic Wines to enable click and collect.
And these are just a few examples of how retailers are using digital across their channels. It comes as no surprise, therefore, that Forrester predicts digital will be involved in at least half of retail transactions by 2020: the figure for the UK could well be more by the time we reach that date.
Today’s guest comment comes from Nick Pinson of iWeb Solutions who considers how UK retailers of all sizes can best approach trading in China, and we also report on a sales rise and a new chairman for online flash sales site MySale.
