Barnes & Noble is to bring its Nook e-reader to the UK this autumn.
The US bookseller will sell both e-readers and digital books online through www.nook.co.uk. Its first products, two models of its Nook Simple Touch, will go on sale in mid-October, while the Nook Store will feature more than 2.5m digital titles for the Nook, available to read through the Nook cloud on a range of digital and mobile devices.
“We are proud to be able to offer our top-rated line of Nook reading devices and our award-winning digital bookstore to the discerning and highly educated consumers in the UK,” said William J Lynch, chief executive officer of Barnes & Noble. “We’re confident our award-winning technology, combined with our expansive content – including books, children’s books, magazines, apps, movies and more – will bring UK customers the option they’ve been waiting for.”
The move means a new entrant to a market for digital reading devices that already includes Amazon’s Kindle, Apple’s iPad and iPhone, and WH Smith’s Kobo, Sony’s Reader and the Blackberry Playbook.
Prices for the Nook range will be announced in coming weeks.
