Connect the store to online at Screenmedia Expo 2011

A 'connected store' in which shoppers will be able to browse a department store’s inventory at the touch of a screen, create outfits on a digital mannequin, get special offers via mobile and share their findings with friends will be among the attractions at this year’s Screenmedia Expo 2011.

The Connected Store will be showcased by Intel, one of the more than 100 exhibitors who are showing at the event to be held at Earls Court 2 on May 18 and 19. Others include Vizrt, Planar, AMD and Adscreen.

More than 3,000 people are expected to attend the expo, where attractions also include a learning zone with three parallel tracks of speakers and a Screenmedia Professionals Conference, all run by The Imperative Group. Among the speakers will be Internet Retailing editor-in-chief Ian Jindal.

Jindal says that it’s important for retailers to consider how they can use digital technology and displays in their stores as they connect their stores to their online website while also adapting to the use of smartphones and tablet computers in the store.

He said: “With the drive towards multichannel continuing, it’s important for ecommerce professionals to reflect on how they can appropriate and enlist physical environments. We've started with the incursion of mobiles into the stores, in customers' hands, and iPads for our store colleagues, but digital and interactive signage and display technologies give an opportunity to plan on a much larger and more dramatic scale.”

The Screen LoveContent Annual Awards will also be held at an evening event on May 18 at the expo.
