Loyalty programme Nectar and supermarket Sainsbury’s have launched iPhone/iPod apps that not only allow users to manage their loyalty schemes on their phones, but will also allow for Nectar partners Sainsbury’s, BP, Homebase and Hertz – alongside selected offers from FMCG brands – to send targeted points offers to consumers.

The free apps will also feature a store and reward locator to pinpoint the nearest place to collect and spend points and instant access to check Nectar points balance on the go. Additionally, the Sainsbury’s app will also provide information about in store promotions

The Apps can be downloaded as a Nectar or Sainsbury’s – branded app depending on the shopper’s preference.

The apps have been created in-house by Nectar’s Digital team and have been developed in response to Nectar customer insight showing that over 90% of iPhone users who are Nectar collectors would like to see exclusive offers delivered to them on-the-go. The apps provide further choice to consumers who are increasingly interacting with brands through numerous channels and reflects Nectar’s move to offer multi channel interaction between collectors and Nectar brands.

“The new apps represent the first of many exciting mobile developments to ensure Nectar is always relevant for collectors and importantly giving collectors the choice to interact with the programme in the way they want using the channel which is most relevant to their lifestyle,” Jan-Pieter Lips, Managing Director of Nectar says.

“We strongly believe that the launch of the Nectar app will increase the number of collectors opting into offers and enhance their shopping experience. Furthermore, this new technology provides our Nectar partners with the opportunity to interact with collectors in an innovative and exciting way.”

Mike Coupe, Group Commercial Director, adds: “Our customers are always looking for ways to save money and time and the Sainsbury’s app will allow them to do just that. With our app you will be able to quickly find your nearest Sainsbury’s and receive exclusive, personalised bonus points offers on the go. Through our partnership with Nectar, our customers will never miss out on deals and be able to reward themselves.”

Lips continues: “We will continue to innovate rapidly in the mobile arena to take advantage of the explosion of the use of mobile beyond voice and text, delivering one-to-one targeting and seamless linking between all of our channels. We are offering an additional service to our collectors that will enhance the shopping experience further for them and increase the value they get from the Nectar programme.”
