US bookseller Barnes & Noble
has partnered with LinkMe Mobile from Evryx Technologies
and Spotlight Mobile
to launch the B&N Bookstore app
for iPhone and iPod touch.
Similar to the SnapTell technology recently acquired by Amazon, users simply snap a photo to search millions of products, get product details, editorial reviews, customer ratings and to reserve a copy in their closest store.
The store locator function also helps users find their nearest Barnes & Noble store, see upcoming events, get directions and check the events calendar for celebrity book signings, readings, musical performances and children's Storytimes. The app also includes a range of content including bookseller recommendations, the Barnes & Noble Review, and Barnes & Noble Studio
's video clips and interviews.
Users who already have an account with BN.com can simply enter their email address and password to sign in and access their account information and address book to place an order. Those who do not already have an account can create one on the website or checkout as a guest.
"We designed the B&N Bookstore app based on the tremendous growth we've seen over the past 12 months in our mobile traffic and customer adoption," says William Lynch, president of Barnes & Noble.com. "Now, with the Barnes & Noble app, iPhone and iPod touch users can interact with America's number one bookstore anywhere and anytime, providing them access to exclusive content and customer reviews, as well as information about the more than 50,000 events in our stores."
