Motors.co.uk reports massive growth of mobile and tablet traffic

Motors.co.uk, the UK’s second largest car search response networks for motor dealers, has seen visits to its mobile and app sites more than double (123% increase) in the last 12 months, with 15% of total visits to the site now coming from mobile devices. The firm has also seen a 200% increase in visits from iPads.

This huge growth in mobile and iPad traffic to Motors.co.uk is due to the increasing adoption of smartphones and tablets which is contributing to the rapid growth of mobile media consumption.

Recent research from Ofcom shows that smartphone ownership has doubled in the past 12 months with 46 per cent of the UK population owning an iPhone, BlackBerry, Android, Windows or other smartphone device. Furthermore, according to the Google research, 83% of smartphone users go online on their phones every single day – with 22% saying they would rather give up their TV than their smartphone. In terms of used car buying related activity, 21% of smartphone users found out more about a particular brand using their handset and 29% located a dealer using their device.

Dermot Kelleher, Head of Research and Marketing at Motors.co.uk explains: “Our mobile site continues to contribute response at a fast growing rate – traffic to our site from mobile devices has grown exponentially over the last 12 months. Perhaps more importantly from a dealer perspective, all stock goes onto our mobile site and our apps, at no extra cost.

“However, many dealers still have ‘poor’ mobile web strategies which mean they are missing out on leads as smartphone users are put off from their sites. As the stats show, consumers are increasingly visiting websites from their smartphones and iPads and they expect the content and functionality to be as good as if they were visiting the website from their PC. If they have a bad experience, they are unlikely to return.”

Motors.co.uk is owned by the Daily Mail and General Trust Plc and is the UK’s second largest car search response networks for motor dealers. Motors.co.uk has 1.5m monthly unique visitors, according to ComScore, advertising over 160,000 used cars for sale with major national and regional partners including Mail Online, Honest John, Parkers.co.uk and Desperate Seller.
