The updated eBay Fashion app for iPhone, available in the UK this month, will now feature innovative Image Swatch technology to allow shoppers to find fashion items on eBay.co.uk that match the colour and pattern of images in photographs.

The technology means shoppers can use their smartphone to snap a friend’s outfit, a piece of art or an interesting pattern, and find items that have a matching colour and pattern on eBay. From designer to vintage, the eBay Image Swatch finds fashion that matches the user’s inspiration.

eBay is the UK’s biggest online marketplace for fashion, and leading brands now selling on the UK site include French Connection, L.K. Bennett, Dune and House of Fraser. These hot high street brands are showcased in eBay’s Spring/Summer 2012 campaign, which celebrates UK women’s individual ‘mix and match’ approach to style.

Melanie Smallwood, UK Head of Fashion Brands for eBay, said: “The latest eBay Fashion app takes shopping one step further by allowing people to search for designer, branded and vintage merchandise at the moment of inspiration whenever and wherever they are. Whether it is a unique pattern or a colour that is to die for, the eBay Image Swatch will allow people to target their search like never before, truly reflecting their individual style.”

Earlier this month, eBay also unveiled it’s all new eBay for iPad app. With its new lighter, brighter look and feel, the newest version of the app takes advantage of the iPads enhanced image resolution and the fully customizable home screen and easy navigation allows for a more personalized shopping experience.

In the UK an item is purchased every second on eBay via a mobile device, and fashion is the most popular category for mobile shoppers. eBay mobile apps – which are available in more than 190 countries and in eight languages – have been downloaded over 78 million times globally.

Following a recent update to include image recognition and Milo technology, the RedLaser barcode scanning app now searches thousands of online and local retailers for the best price products faster than ever.
