Crowd-funded, social media-driven Naked Wines has reached £100m in sales for the first time, its parent company said today.
Majestic Wine , a Top100 company in IRUK Top500 research, today said the milestone had come in a year that started on March 31, 2015, and was thanks to a focus on social distribution to provide ‘angel’ customers with exclusive access to quality wine, backed up by customer service.
Naked Wines now has more than 300,000 ‘angels’, or subscribers, who have been signed up for at least four months, and it supports more than 100 independent winemakers in 14 countries.
Majestic Wine chief executive, and Naked Wines founder, Rowan Gormley said: “Hitting this latest milestone proves once again that crowd-funded, social wine distribution can deliver brilliant outcomes for all our stakeholders at the same time – from those who pick the grapes to those who discover and drink our wines.”
He added: “We will continue to invest in Naked Wines and remain very excited about the opportunities ahead for the whole group.”
Rowan Gormley founded Naked Wines, before last year selling it to Majestic Wine and becoming chief executive of the enlarged group.
