Ocado today said it was benefitting from rising demand for internet food shopping.

In a trading statement issued as its annual general meeting took place today, the online grocer said it was already seeing sales growth increase, and that it expected sales would rise by 13% in the second quarter of its financial year, the 12 weeks to May 13.

“Ocado continues to see sales growth increasing as demand for online grocery shopping expands,” the company said in the statement, “and our award winning service and increasing range continue to attract new customers.”

The company said that its Hatfield customer fulfillment centre was operating at record levels, and that capacity there was set to be increased further.

It also said that work on its second fulfillment centre, in Warwickshire, was on schedule for opening in the first quarter of next year.
