Mail order giant The Orvis Company has joined the growing number of companies going straight to m-web rather than apps, with the roll out of a mobile-optimized website that lets customers easily and conveniently purchase Orvis goods. However, the site is optimized for smartphones.

Through Digby’s Mobile Commerce Software Platform, Orvis’ mobile channel complements its e-commerce website, cataloguess, and stores. Orvis’ mobile channel now reaches all 60 retail locations in the US and UK and 350 Orvis dealers worldwide.

The new Orvis Mobile service offers rich imagery, easy-to-navigate categories including men’s, women’s, fly fishing, hunting, travel, dogs, and in-season savings, as well as complete product descriptions, ratings and reviews, store finder, and site search to users on iPhone, iPod Touch, BlackBerry and Android when they visit www.orvis.com.

“For more than 150 years, our name has stood for outdoor traditions, quality and customer satisfaction,” says Phil Young, VP e-commerce, Orvis. “Now we are enhancing that tradition by offering convenience to our customers who want to stay connected with us when mobile. This is a strategic path for us to deliver a world-class mobile offering to our customers.”

“Orvis has a long history of excellence in delivering award-winning products, services and customer satisfaction and we wanted to ensure we created that same experience for Orvis Mobile,” added Dave Sikora, President and CEO of Digby. “With the strength of our Mobile Commerce Platform and the exponential growth in consumers using smartphones to buy products and services, Orvis is taking a leadership position by extending their sporting traditions to the Mobile World.”
