Parcelforce Worldwide has unveiled a new delivery service that enables the end customer to rearrange their parcel delivery time or to have it delivered to an alternative address, or to their local Post Office.
Retailers sending parcels will have the option of sending a notification by text or email on the day that the parcel is dispatched, on the day of delivery and a pre-delivery notification between 30 and 90 minutes before it arrives with the customer.
Parcelforce says its service is different because it’s triggered by the delivery driver rather than by technology, and therefore reflects the driver’s experience more accurately.
Gary Simpson, managing director, Parcelforce Worldwide, said: “We are pleased to be launching our new SMS and email interactive service to increase customer control over the delivery of a parcel.”
He added: “We are investing to grow our business, enabling us to handle more parcels while ensuring we continue to provide a very high level of service to all Parcelforce Worldwide customers.”
• Meanwhile, the Guardian has reported that Amazon could choose to take a stake in its own delivery company. The newspaper’s analysis of Yodel accounts found Amazon has an option to buy 4.2% of Yodel. The option, to buy the stake for £8.7m, must be exercised by 2022, the Guardian reported.
