IRX Expo: Evolution Conference preview

Internet Retailing’s first Expo will be held this March. In the run-up to the event we’ll be taking a weekly look at what the IRX Expo has to offer multichannel and online retailers as well as other industry professionals. Over coming weeks we’ll also be running a series of interviews with some of the key speakers at the event.

This week we’re taking a look at Internet Retailing’s Evolution Conference. This conference, free to attend, is aimed at those business leaders, senior managers and expert staff involved in running enterprise-scale online and multichannel businesses. Here delegates can learn from the best practice and experiences of other retailers, and will have plenty of opportunities to ask questions.

There’ll be a full day of presentations on March 23, while the conference runs until lunchtime on March 24. Over this time the conference will focus on four key areas: the customer, performance, making it work, and driving change.

During the course of March 23, speakers will include Tesco Direct lead service manager Luke Fairless who will show how Tesco goes about putting the customer experience first. Harriet Williams, strategy and online marketing controller at Debenhams will take a look at how insights into customer behaviour have helped shape the retailer’s path into multichannel and mobile retailing.

A mobile commerce panel discussion immediately after lunch that day will be chaired by Paul Skeldon, editor of M-retailing.net, with speakers from retailers including eBay and Debenhams alongside vendors Eagle Eye Solutions and Usablenet.

The following day, Melissa Littler, marketing director at private sales company BrandAlley, will talk about the company’s journey from selling sale stock to tapping into its members’ needs and ideas in order to crowdsource new products. Then Simon Harrow, technology officer at Kiddicare.com will explain how the nursery company has used emerging technology to build customer relationships.

Other speakers over the two days include Max Childs of Adobe Scene7 on engaging the customer with rich media, Patrick Wall of MetaPack on delighting customers through efficient deliveries, Emma Robertson, multichannel specialist at consultancy Transform on making the cross-channel experience seamless and Guava on managing brands online through methods including social media and search marketing.

The Evolution Conference will close with a keynote speech on Monetising Social Commerce from John Butler, head of communications and media at Dunnhumby, the company behind successful loyalty programmes at companies including Tesco, Macy’s and Best Buy. He’ll be considering how retailers can use their loyalty programmes in conjunction with social networks in order to make their customers happier and more loyal.
