In our first preview of one of our major events of the year, Internet Retailing Expo (IRX 2012), we take a look at our conference agenda. The Enterprise Conference will be held on March 21, the first day of the two-day event and is for experienced ecommerce professionals who want to take their business to the next level.

In these cost-conscious times every driver wants to make their fuel go as far as possible. The same is true for internet retailing, and in the Enterprise Conference, part of Internet Retailing Expo 2012 (IRX 2012), the emphasis is very much on getting more miles to the gallon.

Using technology efficiently to make resources go further helps ecommerce managers to make their revenues go as far as possible, and the speakers in our Enterprise Conference bring insights born of their own experience in the field. Many of the speakers are retailers themselves, and they’ll be presenting alongside vendors who help some of the leading online and multichannel businesses to excel.

Thus experienced practioners from retailers as diverse as the hotel group De Vere, Shop Direct Group, Jacques Vert, and Dutch retailer wehkamp.nl will be sharing what they’ve learned from their businesses, alongside industry experts from businesses including eCommera, Shutl, Efficient Frontier, CNET Content Solutions, and Experian Hitwise.

James Murray, marketing research analyst at Experian Hitwise, will open the event, at 10.30am, with insights into today’s cross-channel shoppers. He’ll be looking at some of the patterns that appear from analysis of shopping style, and giving insights into how social, search and mobile are having on the way customers find sites.

At 11am Joanne Stanford, IT director of De Vere, will share lessons learned from the company’s work to improve the customer journey and experience, while powering the whole with a global booking engine. Experiences here include the role of up-sells, cross-sells and loyalty across a varied group of brands.

Next up, at 11.30am are Jonathan Wall, ecommerce director at the Shop Direct Group, and Jack Panayi of CNET Content Solutions will explain how they went about improving the way product content is generated for sites including Very.co.uk and Littlewoods.com.

And in the final session before lunch, at 12 noon, Efficient Frontier aims to prove the case that Facebook and social networking can improve retailers’ return on investment.

After lunch, at 1.30pm, Tom Allason, founder and chief executive of Shutl, will be looking at how delivery is becoming a point of differentiation and competition between online retailers.

He’ll be followed at 1pm by John Bovill, commercial director at Jacques Vert , telling the story of his company’s journey towards the seamless shopping experience that is cross-channel retail.

At 2.30pm Ewald Hoppen, of Dutch retailer wehkamp.nl will explain how the company increased its revenues very substantially by adapting its marketing messages to reflect the needs and interests of the individual visitors travelling around its site, using the intelligence gained from data analytics to segment and personalise.

Michael Ross, co-founder of eCommera and former chief executive of retailer Figleaves.com, rounds off the conference at 3pm with his insights of how retailers can recognise the levers they can use to drive their businesses forward.

It’s free to get into IRX 2012, which will be held at the NEC in Birmingham on March 21 and 22. More than 4,000 visitors are expected at the event which features an exhibition of 150 suppliers to the ecommerce and multichannel industries alongside a two-day learning programme, Selling in the Digital Age. The programme features four conferences, dedicated to M-Retailing, Fast Track, Enterprise and Customer Experience, as well as a series of workshops, learning sessions and demonstrations of the latest technology.
