Wiggle says more than 60% of its new shoppers now hail from overseas, thanks to a move to broaden its payment options.

The cycle and triathlon specialist pureplay says while it was initially successful in selling Europe but found offering a wider choice of payment methods gave it added impetus.

Wiggle opted for Ogone Collect to localise its payment options. It first used the service in 2010 in the Netherlands. In 2012, it extended it to Germany, Belgium and Australia.

Today Ogone’s bespoke online payment solution for Wiggle includes customised individual country pages on 11 different websites with 10 different languages, and popular payment options specific to each market.

Justin Lodge, European territory manager at Wiggle, said “The flexible, tailored approach that Ogone offer has resulted in the integration of 11 different sites in 10 languages to date, which has really helped establish Wiggle as a truly international brand.

“At present, 60% of our new customers are outside of the UK, proving our review and further investment in the Ogone Collect solution a crucial move. The different regional payment options that Ogone offer maximise our global customer base, and allow us to understand different payment cultures and their trends.”

Julian Wallis, head of sales UK and Ireland at Ogone , said “We are pleased to continue a successful partnership with Wiggle, a retailer with growing international reach and potential. This fruitful collaboration demonstrates the need, and success, of a tailored payments strategy, tapping into key markets with informed decisions and expertise.”
