Argos is on the hunt for 1.000 delivery drivers to help it manage peak delivery for Black Friday and Christmas. The move is part of a 6,000 strong recruitment push at the retailer. Meanwhile the company’s owner Sainsbury’s is recruiting for 5,500 seasonal workers – which will also include additional drivers. The retailers are also offering extra hours to existing colleagues.
At Sainsbury’s the roles will include drivers and cyclists to help deliver orders, as well as café and counter colleagues and online assistants. Sainsbury’s jobs will be contracted for up to three months with an average of 15 contracted hours per week.
Argos is recruiting for 5,000 customer advisors and stock assistants in addition to the 1,000 delivery drivers. The drivers will help deliver through the company’s Fast Track delivery service which can deliver orders in as little as four hours. Argos anticipates a double-digit increase in Fast Track orders this December alone.
Argos aims to offer the vast majority of colleagues 20 hours per week contracts, with fewer contracted hours available on request.
Angie Risley, group HR director said: “Our customers shop with us for great quality products at low prices and because they trust us to give them brilliant service throughout the year. Christmas is an extra special time and it’s our mission to make sure that customers can easily get everything they want in our stores and online.”
