Travel deals company Secret Escapes has appointed WorldPay to handle its online payments as it looks to expand overseas.

The private members travel club runs flash sales of upmarket holidays and has seen more than two million members join since it launched a year ago. By using WorldPay the company will be able to accept alternative payment types around the world, important as Secret Escapes looks to move into new markets. Secret Escapes recently won investment of £8m which it plans to use to fund expansion in the US, Germany and the Nordics as well as to boost its UK position.

Shane Happach, chief commercial officer, ecommerce division at WorldPay, said: “The challenge for retailers in this industry is to make travel booking as simple as possible, while still providing options for customers through the channel and currency they desire.

“Secret Escapes has ambitious growth plans in 2013 and we’re excited to be a part of that and support its international expansion helping them to provide the best online purchasing experience to their customers.”

Alex Saint, chief executive of Secret Escapes said: “WorldPay is committed to innovation in the travel industry and we believe this partnership will benefit our customers. It will also help us to grow our revenue streams in global markets as we look to expand internationally in 2013.”
