Users of the new Stagecoach UK Bus website can from this week buy their bus tickets and plan their journeys, with real-time digital updates through any device. Stagecoach says the mobile-first site takes online bus journey planning national for the first time, offering the kind of digital travel experience that has previously only been available through Transport for London or Google.

“Our customers want seamless journeys, from planning their trip and buying tickets to getting real-time travel information and catching the bus,” said Robert Montgomery, managing director at Stagecoach UK Bus. “We believe this new website will help make life easier for all of our passengers, no matter how often they use the bus.”

Creative agency Rufus Leonard developed the site, which is part of an £11m digital strategy from its parent company Stagecoach Group, and which will be the foundation for future mobile and digital development at the bus operator. Stagecoach, with a fleet of 8,300 vehicles, is the largest bus operator in the UK and operates in more than 100 towns and cities, carrying about 3m passengers each day.

Lindsay Wall, managing director at Rufus Leonard, said: “This service really is a gamechanger. Customers across the UK will be able to plan their journeys, and buy their tickets on any device. Gradually they will also be able to physically track their bus, so no more waiting in the rain.”

The full service is expected to roll out in 2016.
