In today’s Internet Retailing newsletter we’re considering the challenges, and rewards, of digital transformation. Our theme comes as BHS says it needs space from its creditors to aid its own turnaround for a future that will be all about multichannel retailing. Fortunately, we have both advice and inspiration in today’s newsletter for all those considering the importance of retooling their business to meet the needs of the customer.
The advice comes from Michael Durbridge, omnichannel director of B&Q, in an interview ahead of IRX 2016, where he will be speaking on the role of the customer in that transformation, and from Bertrand Salord of App Annie who reflects on the importance of mobile to an omnichannel strategy in our guest comment.
The inspiration comes from Domino’s Pizza, as it reports fast growth through its mobile and online channels following significant investment in digital, and from Wickes and Toolstation-owner Travis Perkins Group, which this week reported on the difference that digital and other retail transformation has made to its businesses. But digital transformation doesn’t have to be wholesale. Joseph Joseph sees transformation in its new website, which aims to boost the brand’s design credentials whilst also equipping it for new international markets.
