The traders who are innovating this Christmas, in what is the most important time of most retailers’ years, are leading the way into a future in which joined-up retail will be more important than ever. Today we report on some of them. We have news of Tesco’s move to take augmented reality and other digital novelties to its convenience stores this Christmas, and of the rise in online sales that John Lewis is seeing as more than a third of its business now goes through its website, and we also report on a 21% hike in profits for Tui Travel, thanks in part to its investment in the cross-channel customer experience.

We also have news of Carpetright’s work to align its website and call centre, and of a move into multichannel for Breil owner the Binda Group.

Finally, today we also have a warning of the importance of accounting for online returns when measuring online growth this Christmas.
