Currys PC World has launched a transactional app, which, it hopes, will transform the way customers can shop at the technology retailer.

The new app helps customers shop however and whenever they want across the retailer’s channels with an easy end-to-end shopping experience and all the information they need to make a purchase at their fingertips.

The app will allow Currys PC World to be with the customer throughout the lifetime of their product making the retailer central to the customer’s enjoyment of amazing technology. The app allows customers to manage orders, check stock availability and create wish lists to use in-store.

The app is accessed using secure log-in with biometrics and will soon feature integrated augmented reality to see how a product looks in the home before deciding to buy. Other future capabilities will include the ability to manage trade-ins and upgrades, repairs, protection and services.

Stuart Ramage, eCommerce Director at Dixons Carphone, said: “We want to be with our customers throughout the lifetime of their products and throughout their life. Our app is part of this journey, creating a seamless end-to-end experience. This includes features to help them discover, choose, afford and enjoy the latest amazing tech right through to advice on how to repair, trade-in and upgrade products.”

The app launch comes as part of a multi-million-pound investment the retailer has made in its ecommerce systems this year, which has seen improvements to the search accuracy, speed increases to the website and a greater product choice.

Customers can use the app to shop and manage their orders and account natively, as well as making wish lists. It also allows them to check live store stock levels. Once in store, shoppers can use the app to scan product barcodes to bring up product details and purchase.

The app also allows for voice-based search and uses biometrics such as fingerprint and FaceID to help secure login. Currys PC world, meanwhile, can use the app to push notifications and offers out to logged in customers.

Future iterations of the app are set to also feature the ability to purchase the latest tech using credit with a built-in credit calculator, use Google and Apple Pay for purchases, arrange Pay and Collect, as well as track deliveries and use AR to place items in the home. It will also help manage repairs, trade-ins and upgrades.
