InPost is working with parcel locker provider InPost to put automated ecommerce lockers at 40 stations across its rail network.

The collection and return lockers, which provide a contactless fulfilment option, are currently being installed at 14 stations operated by South West Railway in the Greater London area, before being added to commuter hubs including Bracknell, Basingstoke and Woking. More than 300m South West passengers a year travel on its commuter and regional services in the home countries and the South West.

Jerome Pacatte, head of stations at South Western Railway, said: “Our stations sit at the heart of the communities we serve, and we want them to offer more than simply a place for customers to travel to and from. We have been delighted to work in partnership with InPost and oversee the installation of these new automated ecommerce lockers. They will provide our customers with a convenient and efficient way to send and receive parcels, including during the very testing times that we are currently living through.”

Jason Tavaria, chief executive of InPost, said: “While the pandemic has had an understandable impact on rail services, the stations are in central locations meaning they are often the main hub for communities and towns. Partnering with a major operator in SWR will allow consumers to access our lockers easily and conveniently to satisfy all their postal needs, particularly during these challenging times. InPost lockers provide consumers with a safe, contact-free solution to send and receive essential products while maintaining safe social-distancing.”

InPost aims to increase its network of lockers to 6,000 sites by the end of 2022 and says it aims to provide more sustainable ways of picking up online orders within greener communities. Fifty parcels, it says, can be delivered in one stop to lockers. The business also has lockers at both Transport for London and Great Western Railway stations.
