UK click and collect usage higher than European peers


UK shoppers are ahead of their European counterparts when it comes to click and collect usage with more than half (54%) having used a click and collect service in the last year, according to new YouGov research.
The third JDA/Centiro Customer Pulse Report Europe 2017, surveyed more than 8,000 adults across the UK, Germany, France and Sweden. In Europe as a whole 42% of shoppers who had shopped online in the past twelve months had used click and collect, a figure which fell to 28% in Germany.

The survey showed too that click and collect was driving upsell opportunities for retailers, with nearly a quarter (24%) of European shoppers who had used click and collect then buying another item whilst collecting their order instore.

“Physical footfall is becoming important again, and Click & Collect represents an important vehicle for retailers to make the most of all the hard work they’re putting into the in-store experience,” said Lee Gill, group vice president, global retail strategy at JDA. “An effective Click & Collect operation isn’t just for Christmas, however: it can help boost sales throughout the year,” he said.

The research revealed that still more than half (56%) of European adults had experienced an issue with a click and collect order in the last 12 months with the UK needing to focus in particular on staffing issues since more than a quarter (26%) had been forced to wait a long time thanks to a lack of available staff to help.
