In-store shopping set to peak today, while online retailers prepare for Boxing Day sales

This is an archived article - we have removed images and other assets but have left the text unchanged for your reference

In today’s InternetRetailing newsletter we report on the day that in-store Christmas shopping is expected to peak in the UK, giving online retailers brief respite ahead of the Boxing Day sales, apart from those last-minute orders for express delivery that are still coming in. But the true peak of this year’s online buying season is now well behind us and we’ve been mulling over what we learned from Black Friday, and today we have some early thoughts from industry experts on what lessons can be carried ahead to next year.

This is the last newsletter of this year and in our next we’ll be focusing on what we can expect in 2016. In the meantime, we’d like to wish you a very Happy Christmas and a Merry New Year to you all.

In the meantime, however, we also report as Royal Mail buys NetDespatch, on a PhotoBox study that says personalised gifts could total £1bn in 2015, and on a Bronto/Demandware analysis of UK retailers’ online checkouts. Today’s guest comment comes from Barry Smith of Ikano Insight as he considers how brands can use techology to keep their customers loyal.

Our webinars

Our next webinar is on January 19, when Grant Coleman of Zmags and Ketan Shah of Lyons Consulting Group will join us for a session on creating shoppable content. The two will discuss how retailers can best approach creating an immersive and personalised customer experience that keeps shoppers’ attention. How to create the shoppable experience that customers crave is at 3pm on January 19. Find out more and register for the free event here.
