DHL Express launches new service to improve offer for international ecommerce deliveries

DeliveryX

DHL Express claims to be making global online shopping easier with a new service that it says allows shippers and receivers globally to select from a range of standardised delivery options.
The company has launched On Demand Delivery. The service allows shippers to activate specific delivery options. DHL Express will then notify their customers via email or SMS about a shipment’s progress with that customer then able to choose the delivery option that best suits their requirements via the On-Demand Delivery website.

It says the service is particularly aimed at international ecommerce deliveries where flexibility and convenience is key.

“We have seen the share of e-commerce deliveries grow from about 10% in 2013 to more than 20% of the international volumes of DHL Express in 2016,” said John Pearson, CEO Europe and global head of commercial, DHL Express Europe. “This has primarily been driven by the strong demand for high-value and premium goods in the global marketplace, as well as the emergence of start-up retailers who are expanding opportunistically to new overseas markets and therefore require a worldwide door-to-door delivery service,” he said.

The service will be rolled out to more than 100 countries this year and next. Those using the site can access it from a smartphone, tablet or PC where they are then able to choose from up to six delivery options. They can schedule a delivery, arrange for it to come to a nearly DHL service point or a different address or put a hold on a delivery if they are away.
